Create a classroom bulletin board or

digital slideshow showcasing these

professionals and their contributions.

The professional’s career journey.

Challenges they faced and how they overcame them.

Public Defender, Record Executive, CEO- Entrepreneur, Baker, Planetarium Manager, Cybersecurity Engineer,

Information Security Administrator, Veterinarian, Kindergarten Teacher, Energy Auditor Inspector, Service

Operations - Automotive, Senior VP of Adult Merchandising, Vice President of Loss Prevention, CPA, Medical

Technologist, Ombuds, Street Car Operator, Author, Campus Safety Sergeant, Financial Analyst, Senior

Director of Emergency Management, Environmental Scientist and many more!

entrepreneur.

Before the session, have students

brainstorm and prepare guiding

questions such as:

invite parents or community members to join virtually.

Activity 2: Local and Virtual Connections—Engage with Black

Professionals in Your Community

Objective: Connect students with local Black professionals to hear real-world stories and build

community awareness.

Extension Idea:

“What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?”

“What advice would you give students exploring this field?”

2. Post-Session Activity:

Have students create a visual project (poster, infographic, or slide deck) about

the professional they met, focusing on:

Their career journey and contributions.

Lessons or advice shared during the session.

3. Project Presentation:

Students create a presentation or write a short essay comparing the historical

figure to a modern professional in the same field, highlighting how past

achievements paved the way for current opportunities.

Steps:

1. Assign STEM-Focused Pathful Content:

Use Pathful videos featuring Black professionals in STEM fields (e.g.,

engineers, coders, scientists). Some examples: Environmental Scientist,

Cybersecurity Engineer, Lead Technologist, Software Engineer - Video

Games, Mechanical Engineer

2. Group Brainstorming:

Facilitate a discussion about how diversity in STEM impacts innovation.

Guiding questions:

“How does diversity strengthen problem-solving in STEM?”

“What barriers do underrepresented groups face in STEM fields?”

3. Hands-On Extension:
