This sample implementation plan for Texas is designed to ensure
that all students complete a career development plan and engage in
WBL opportunities throughout their PK-12 education, in alignment with
the state’s career education, exploration, CTE, and WBL standards.
Throughout PK-12th grade
Use Requested sessions (WBL) and Career to develop career awareness and
interest. Use Lessons to develop student skills and knowledge.
Elementary School (Grades PK-5 - Pathful Jr.)
At the elementary level, career exploration is primarily about introducing students
to the concept of careers, helping them understand the world of work, and
starting to identify personal interests and strengths.
Pathful Jr. provides tailored content for young students, introducing them to
different careers through short videos and virtual guest speakers. These
resources can help teachers integrate career-related themes into lessons.
Career Profiles and WBL Library: Using engaging, age-appropriate content,
students can watch videos about real professionals discussing their jobs,
which aligns with the goal of exposing students to different careers.
Virtual Field Trips: Pathful offers virtual tours of workplaces, allowing
elementary students to see inside industries like healthcare, engineering, and
more.

8th Grade: Developing Initial Career Plans and Course Alignment
Students create initial career plans and select high school courses aligned with
their career interests.
Individual Career Planning Tool: Students create digital career or
postsecondary plans, mapping out potential career paths and research the
education needed for those roles.

Career Awareness Virtual Events: Schools are able to access and organize to

Retake Interest Assessment and Take Personality, and Work-Values
Assessment: Students take more detailed assessments to explore other
factors that might impact their career choices.
Session Requests: Teachers submit session requests so students can engage
with industry professionals, discussing the skills and education required in
their fields.
Goal Setting: Students update their digital career plans with both short-term
academic goals and long-term career objectives.
10th Grade: Introduction to Work-Based Learning and
Real-World Applications
Focus: Students begin participating in introductory Work-Based Learning (WBL)
experiences and further develop career-specific skills.
Virtual Job Shadowing: Students continue to explore and research
professions in their chosen career pathways via virtual job shadowing videos
and career explorer.
Employability Videos, Lessons and Courses: Focus on developing workplace
readiness skills such as professionalism, leadership, and time management
through interactive Pathful content.
Industry-Led Projects: Use Pathful’s industry-specific WBL modules to help
students practice career-relevant skills (e.g., coding for IT, patient care for
healthcare) and gain experience in different fields.
High School (Grades 9-12): Career Preparation and
Work-Based Learning
11th Grade: Participation in Work-Based Learning and Career
Preparation
Focus: Students actively participate in more advanced WBL experiences and
fine-tune their career preparation.
Internships and Apprenticeships: Connect students with virtual or local
internship and apprenticeship opportunities facilitated through Pathful’s WBL
network and Session Requests.
Resume and Interview Skills Lessons: Use Lessons focused on resume
building, interview preparation, and job application skills to prepare students
for WBL participation. Use Session Requests to give students practical
opportunities to practice these skills.
Career Mentorship: Use Session Requests to connect students to industry
pros in chosen fields, offering guidance and feedback on career preparation,
student work, and to address student inquiry.
12th Grade: Practicum, Work Experience, and Transition to
Postsecondary Plans
Focus: Students complete advanced WBL experiences, refine their career plans,
and prepare for postsecondary education or immediate entry into the workforce.
Practicum and Capstone Projects: Facilitate practicums or capstone projects
where students can demonstrate the skills and knowledge they’ve developed
through hands-on work in their chosen career fields through Session Requests
with industry pros.
Postsecondary Transition Planning: Use Pathful to help students prepare for
life after high school, whether through college, technical training, or direct
entry into a career.
Career Portfolio Completion: Ensure students complete their digital career
portfolios, documenting their WBL experiences, skills, certifications, and
accomplishments.
